What are stainless steel heat exchanger tubes?

The grade 310 has combined high temperature and pressure properties with good weldability and ductility. It got designed with utmost temperature services. It is highly resistant to oxidation in both intermittent services and continuous services. It can withstand a temperature of about 1150 degree C with reduced sulfur gases. In intermittent services, the temperature could be 1040 degree C.
The grade 310S also known as UNS S31008 can be used when the industrial application requires moist corrodents in lower temperature ranges. High-temperature strength has reduced carbon content.
It also possesses excellent toughness like other grades along with better resistance in cryogenic temperatures. Grade 310 has 0.03% carbon content. It has specified corrosion resistance in an environment like urea production.

The key properties are due to mechanical properties, composition, and physical properties. The composition is as follows- Cr, Mn, C, and N. The mechanical properties contain appropriate elongation, hardness, yielding strength, and tensile strength. The physical properties contain thermal conductivity, mean coefficient of expansion, elastic modulus, and density.

Corrosion resistance- the corrosion resistance properties get increased through appropriate chromium content. The grade offers good aqueous resistance. It works excellently at normal temperature. At high temperature, it can work well in carburizing and oxidizing atmospheres. It can resist nitric acid fumes at temperature up to 425 degrees C.

Heat resistance- in intermittent service, the tube offers good resistance at temperature 1040 degree C. In continuous services, the tubes work well at 1150 degree C. It shows good thermal fatigue resistance. That is what makes its usage far and wide. It is not at all recommended to use at 425-860 degree C because of carbide precipitation.
